harles Graham's freshman year at the University of Missouri happened to coincide with campus turmoil. There were incidents of racially charged harassment in Columbia, which led to protests that captured national media attention.

Graham wanted to attend college away from home, and he did. But he said the stress sent him back.

Graham, the 2014-15 Daily Press Male Athlete of the Year, has enrolled at Hampton University and will compete this indoor track season. He'll be two miles down the road from Phoebus, where he won three state championships as a senior.

"The last year and a half was really rough for me in Missouri," he said. "A lot of things were going on there, and I was far away from home. I was going through a lot of stuff and stress there.
"I'm very happy to be back. Life cannot be any better. I'm stress-free, happy and glad to be around my family and friends."
