@HAMPTON_FB 2015: THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN

HAMPTON, Va. – When Phil Lynott wrote the hit single "The Boys are Back in Town" for Thin Lizzy back in 1976, he almost certainly was not thinking about the Hampton University football program. Nevertheless, the boys are indeed back in town and they come in with a new attitude.

The Pirates returned to campus on Saturday, Aug. 8, and moved into their dorms. On Sunday, Aug. 9 they saw two of the most important people in the athletic department during this time of year, John Brown and Malcolm Bryant, to pick up their equipment as the Pirates set to start the season with a clean slate.

It has been 37 weeks, 261 days, since the Pirates walked off the field at Green Stadium in Washington, DC against Howard, and the players and coaches are ready to show everyone that they are a different team.

The 2014 season was unlike anything head coach Connell Maynor had experienced throughout his career, as the Pirates went 3-9 in his first year at the helm. For Maynor, who won 45 games and made three straight NCAA Div. II playoff appearances in four years at Winston-Salem State, this was a scenario he was not accustomed to.

Offensive inefficiency in the red zone, combined with a lack of execution and depth on the defensive side, plagued the Pirates in 2014.
